Often lanscape shots can be unchallanging and a bit ‘samey’ or derivative. Of course a beautiful sunset, sandy beach, or the haar rolling off a Scottish loch can be irresistable, but sometimes I like to look for the details, or the interventions in a landscape.

North Uist

North Uist is one of a group of islands known as the Outer Hebrides, or Western Isles. They are part of Scotland and sit off the north west coast west of Skye. Uist has a unique aura and has a culture drawn form Gaelic small holders and farmers. Recently, Uist has a strong interest in the Creative Arts with a small community art college, and a programme of visiting artists.

The photos below were taken as part of a trip documenting this fabulous landscape that changes form the machir (fertile fields of wild plants, to the barren windswept golden sandy beaches. More info can be found here.
